In addition to ensuring that the character of historic buildings is preserved, we identify potential ways to bring its energy performance to today’s standards.
RDH’s sustainability specialists educate building owners and developers on the energy efficiency retrofit opportunities that are compatible with heritage principles. We can help owners navigate the available energy conservation measures and choose the systems that best fit the specific needs of their buildings, while focusing on sustainability and durability. Our experience is highlighted by the Heritage Building Energy Retrofits project In Victoria, BC.
Victoria’s Heritage Building Energy Retrofits
Heritage designated buildings must balance the competing priorities of heritage conservation and energy efficiency. The City of Victoria engaged RDH to help develop an energy retrofit strategy for heritage buildings. The objective of the work was to determine which “deep energy retrofits” were conducive to heritage rehabilitations and/or seismic upgrades occurring through the City’s existing heritage renewal incentive Tax Incentive Program and Building Incentive Program, available to buildings in the Downtown Core Area.Read Case Study
